The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is a non-profit registered tax-exempt pirate ship in the United States and a registered Stichting (foundation) in the Netherlands.It is based in Friday Harbor, Washington in the United States and in Melbourne, Australia for its Southern Hemisphere operations. Members undertake campaigns that the society says are guided by the United Nations World Charter for Nature (1982) and other statutory laws protecting marine species and environments. It operates a fleet of three vessels it calls Neptune's Navy: the RV Farley Mowat, the MV Steve Irwin, and the RV Sirenian, as well as several smaller boats.

In 2008 Animal Planet began filming the weekly series Whale Wars based on these encounters.
In its anti-whaling efforts, the society attempts to deter Japanese ships that hunt minke and fin whales in the name of scientific research. Sea Shepherd and other environmental groups dispute the Japanese claim of research "as a disguise for commercial whaling, which is banned. There have been no deaths or serious injuries from Sea Shepherd actions, though claims of injuries have been reported. The most recent injury report was made by two Japanese crewmen who were attacked with a foul-smelling butyric acid stink bomb during Sea Shepherd's February 2007 action in the Ross Sea.Sea Shepherd admitted to throwing six one-litre bottles of butyric acid onto the deck of the Nisshin Maru, but says that the claims of injuries are "a total fabrication" and that the butyric acid they use is "basically rancid butter".

Happy Day

Congrats to Reed & Dee Dee - 30 years of marriage!! Anya threw a great party at her house on Saturday. I had some fun time with Lucas and he rested up in my bed for almost 3 hours before the party! Yummy food & Good times were had by all!

Each week of our recovery period brings new problems and new challenges.

On a recent trip to Isle de Jean Charles, I noticed a large number of vehicles parked at a home. As I approached the home, I heard church hymns being sung by the approximate 20 family and friends who had gathered. A tribal elder, 87 years old, had evacuated to Baton Rouge from the Island for hurricanes Gustav and Ike. He later returned to a relative’s home in a neighboring town. The gentlemen has life threatening health problems and although his home had been largely destroyed by the storms, he expressed to his family that he wanted to spend his last days in his home on the Island. His grandson worked frantically to remove flooded furnishings from his home and clean it as best he could in order for his grandfather to return. When we arrived, the family was singing his favorite church hymns to comfort him in his last moments. My heart broke as I saw this frail tribal elder laying on a cot surrounded by loved ones. Although there was still marsh grass on the porch and mold on the walls, his final wish had come true. He was home.

To Each His Own (No Explanation Needed)

Lately I have been hearing alot of false rumors about the new President-elect Barack Obama. It just amazes me that people don't invest any time in reading or trying to find some facts, some people it seems - want to believe the worst.

Funny thing is that even if you try to put some "truth" out there - it would actually mean one would have to take the time to click on the link, and read.

I am sorry for all the people who are dissapointed that McCain/Palin lost the election. I guess that is part of the electoral process, and the majority of America chose Obama. No one EVER should be put in a position to defend their choices - escpecailly who you vote for.

As for me - I didn't get the chance to vote due to my TN drivers license. The state of Florida does not recognize TN DL's as the only form of ID and I was not able to cast my ballot for anyone.

Trip to TN

I enjoyed a nice & relaxing 4 day weekend in TN and I made great time during the drive. Jip could hardly stand the long ride and was very anxious to get there. The fall colors were very nice along the way and I soaked in the hot tub after the long drive! It was great to see my friends and we shared a awesome seafood feast that Lyle made from scratch with the seafood I brought with me. Jip was having a great time running around with Major and he made friends with their cat, Nicorette, who strongly resembles PumknJax. We drove out and saw the new cabin on Short Mountain and met a neighbor with a great place and kitchen under construction. I soaked in the hot tub each night and looked up at the stars, and they are much clearer up on the mountain away from all the extra light. I enjoyed the peaceful quiet-quiet, and tried hard not to fall alseep to the sounds of the leaves blowing in the wind.

On The Road Again

I am leaving Thursday to go see my best good friends Lyle & Jerin in Tennessee. I am so ready for a mini vacay!

Not the Usual Saturday night...

Well, last night Jip bolted out of the living room and soon after I heard the loud sounds of fighting, I ran out to see Jip fighting with a Racoon and I jumped in to save my Noonins! I grabbed the racoon off of Jip and flung him, but also in the process fell into the wooden walk way and tore up my legs from the knees down and damaged my toes, tearing a toe nail off. The racoon stood up on two legs and seemed confused but did not leave quickly. I picked up Jip and started yelling at the racoon. Mom heard my yelling and came to our rescue. It happened so fast, I know it's crazy to grab a racoon! Jip had no bites that we could find - amazing!
Jip has been "barky" ever since this incident. He kept me up all night barking and grrring at every little noise.

I miss my Mammaw.

I miss my Pappaw too. But, today I really miss her.
There are many days I have random thoughts of her. I remember when I poured hot tea from the stove into a green glass pitcher and as she entered the kitchen could not stop me from pouring and the heat cracked it in two. She didn't get upset or show anger about my mistake. I am sure the pitcher meant something to her though and that she was dissapointed.
I also think of her smells in her bedroom and her perfume and smell of her lotions. Making her bed and getting her mail.

When she hugged someone she really hugged them, she pulled them into her body, and when she hugged me the soft skin on her neck would be so comforting, like a pillow.
I think of the way I would put plastic curlers in her hair and watch TV with her, not talking really, just an occasional phrase from her every now and then.
Her romance novels, Bunko nights and secret money.

I think of the way she would say " I love you" inflecting her voice in the love part.

My Day with Lucas

Lucas and I spent the afternoon together and I took him to pick out a new toy. We saw lots of different toys but he picked this one off the shelf himself and knocked it to the floor. He had 2 choices and each time I presented them he chose the Winnie the Pooh phone. Next, we headed to Bayview Park and had a small lunch together in the shade thanks to Mom packing up us a picnic of PB&J and grapes, Turkey Sandwich for me. He then explored the playground and adapted to walking on sand pretty well. He loved steering the wheel and asked for high fives out of the blue! Not sure who has been teaching him that. He loved watching the other kids and made friends with another 1 yr old. After that we went to my house and opened his toy and he explored my house and found & kept the whole time a jar of yellow cupcake sprinkles (*you will notice he is holding them in most of these pics) He also played with the ball with Jip and we went on 3 walks around the neighborhood. It was a great day!

Barktober 2008

Uncle Larry & I took the dogs to Barktober Fest in Seville Park today. It was fun seeing all the different kinds of dogs and great costumes. We pointed and laughed!! Larry entered PePe in the Best Costume contest as a Lady Bug.

Pale Male and Lola are a pair of red tailed Hawks living on 5th Ave/Central Park in NYC. I have been enjoying the high-res telephoto pics that Lincoln posts almost daily chroniciling their lives. There is an amazing variety of wild life in Central Park.
