Jip is feeling better!! After a good nights rest he has been wagging his tail and trying to play with his ball - he can only hold it in his mouth but atleast I know his spirit is returning. I know he hates the cone on his head but he will have to wear for 2 weeks.

Healing Time

Jip has come home and has been heavily sedated with pain medication so he has been sleeping it off. The eye is really swollen but atleast he has an eye. He will be getting lots of extra love and attention for the next two weeks.

My Mammaw would use the word "pitiful" atleast once a day when she was alive. She could be referring to a dead plant, or something on the news, she liked the word and used it often. I thought of her when they handed Jip to me at 430am. He was truely pitiful , but not completely pitiful as Beau and Mom were able to coax a few tail wags out of him by this afternoon. :)

Beware of SLEEPING Dog!

There sure has been alot going on lately! Seems like when alot of bad things happen you have to focus on the positive and the things that are RIGHT in life instead of what's wrong.

My Lil Jip has had another misfortune! He and I have been house sitting for Larry and Judy all week with their two dogs (dalmation) Bailey and (boston terrier) PePe and they got along fine. Bailey was sleeping in his room with Larry & when Jip wandered into the room Bailey just attacked him. Jip got a bite to his eye. Judy and I took him to the emergency vet for treatment (it was 1130pm) and he will be going into surgery soon. The good news is that his eyeball is fine with no injury to his cornea. YEAH!!! The injury was only to his lower lid, but it is a pretty big gash and will take a while to heal.

I don't think that Bailey was out to get Jip , and they got along fine for the whole week. It was just an unfortunate accident. It was also very unfortunate that it happened on the night that Larry and Judy came home with Dori. Dori fell from a ladder and has a broken back and two broken arms and wrist!! They have been in Atlanta taking care of her.

Jip will be going into surgery and I will pick him up ASAP. I told the Vet I wanted him out of the hospital as soon as possible since Jip has major anxiety inside the hospital cage.

Bailey is a good dog. I have enjoyed being with him and getting to know him this past week. He really loves Larry alot and just has a low tolerance for crossing his territory. Jip just didn't know what he was walking into.

I will give an update soon & let you know how he is doing and post some pics. Just please send my Noonins some healing thoughts along with Dori too!

I am so THANKFUL that he is okay. Now, enough is enough! too much drama for such a little dog!!

Lucas & His Bird Face

Lucas makes the cutest face when he gets hungry. Anya calls it his "bird face" since he opens his mouth and starts looking for a nipple. He usually finds his hand and will suck on it loudly until he looses his hand and gets REALLY upset.

You have 30 seconds to get his bottle!!

Lucas is getting stronger and stronger, he is even lifting his own head and developing his neck muscles. He seems to be ready to play alot more lately. He is just so neat!! I love getting to see him when his eyes are open!

Only 650 Mountain Gorillas Remain in Africa

Three female mountain gorillas and a male silverback were found shot dead this week in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Virunga National Park.

But park rangers received some good news yesterday when the five-month-old baby of one of the dead females was found alive.
The baby gorilla, named Ndeze, was badly dehydrated but otherwise fine, the rangers reported.

She was taken to the nearby city of Goma, where the young ape will be looked after at the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project.

Ndeze received widespread international attention in February when its mother, called Safari, gave birth—a rare occurrence among the troubled mountain gorillas.

Safari was among the three females found dead, but the baby's older brother rescued her from the mother's body after the attack, rangers say.

The siblings had been seen fleetingly in the dense forest, but rangers had expected that the baby would die from dehydration because the brother could not feed her.

When they found the pair, rangers say, Ndeze's brother was reportedly calm as they took her away.

Paulin Ngobobo, the head ranger of the southern sector of Virunga National Park, called the baby's rescue "an amazing piece of news."

"We had given up hope on Ndeze," he said.

Silverback Shot

The four adult gorillas were shot to death by unknown assailants on Sunday night.

The slaughter deeply shocked the rangers and conservationists who work to protect the endangered gorillas in a park that has been ravaged by civil strife for years.

"This is a disaster," said Emmanuel de Merode, director of WildlifeDirect, a conservation group based in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya that supports the rangers working in Virunga.

Park staff and WildlifeDirect officials stationed in Virunga's Bukima camp said they heard gunshots coming from inside the dense forest around 8 p.m. on Sunday.

When the rangers ventured into the forest on Monday morning, they found the three female gorillas.

"The gorillas were all quite close together. They had all been shot," de Merode said.

In addition to Safari, another dead female was the mother of a two-year-old. The third gorilla killed was pregnant.

It was not until the following day that rangers found the silverback Senkekwe, the leader of the so-called Rugendo family of 12 individuals.

Another two gorillas from the family are reportedly missing, their fate unknown

More than half of the gorillas' population, estimated at about 700, is found in Virunga. The rest live in forests in Rwanda and Uganda.

The park lies in the heart of one of the most troubled regions of Africa.

Sad News

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My grandparents had two Boston Terriers, one named Baby and the other Pepe. When they passed Larry & Judy took them in and gave them a new home and love. Today Larry came home and found that Baby had died in the back yard. He feels incredibly sad and guilty that he left her out. Not to mention that today is a day he should be happy - it's his Birthday afterall. I understand his grief, as I felt I had lost Jip not long ago. She lived a good life and would not want Larry to blame himself for what happened. She is in a better place, and maybe she is even with Mammaw and Pappaw again. Larry & Judy will miss her and we all can see how much she was loved.

Juliet & Jax : A Love Story

I have never seen two cats more inlove than Juliet and Jax. It's rather strange to find them spooned together, often Jax will have his arm around her during naps. They groom and bite each other on the neck. We better be careful or we might have more kittens on our hands!

QTip

Spike & Miss Green Jeans

I adopted Green Jeans at a party in Nashville, it was winter and the party Host was putting the coats in a closet and I noticed a bird cage. I asked him if he wanted to sell the bird cage and he mentioned that he had a parakeet that he couldn't stand because it chirped all the time. He said he kept the bird in the closet so it would be quiet. He didn't want the parakeet and asked me if I wanted it, I couldn't leave "him" there in that closet! so I took him home that night. I thought Spike would like to have a bird friend. After a few months I found out that Mr. Green Jeans was a girl. She lays eggs every spring and is so in love with Spike. If I move his cage and she can't see him she throws a fit and chirps an angry chirp. She bites, but is so much happier since she came home with me.

Take a look at these....

Beau's dog Vega at the park.

Juliet likes to explore the dishwasher. And, wants to get outside any chance she can. She climbed up to the top of a big palm tree and fell about 20feet butwas not hurt - quite a lucky little kitty!

Here is a pic of the snake Summer and I found on a late night walk with Jip recently. The snake had just begun to eat a bat when we found it. However, since we were messing with it so much, it spit the bat out and left.
